HIGHLIGHT OF THIS WEEK
The Universe: Supernovas
When a Star explodes and can shine as bright as a 100 billion Suns. Known as a Supernova the sensational death and detonation of a Star, generates a burst of radiation that may, for an instant, outshine its entire host galaxy. It can also radiate as much energy as the Sun would emit over 10 billion years. The stellar explosion propels jets of high-energy light and matter out into space. The hurling remains and materials are heated to millions of degrees and can cause massive Gamma Ray Bursts and emit intense X-ray radiation for thousands of years. Astronomer's believe that this process creates the very building blocks of planets, people and plants and so studying them is essential if we to understand how life and the universe were formed
